A designer with a passion for games and animation.
It all started with learning Blender 3D for game development, leading to professional work in the 3D field.
Since then, expanding into animation, design, and development through personal projects, while using AI to accelerate learning, explore ideas, and turn concepts into working prototypes.

Dear Laser Focus Team,

Thank you for taking the time to consider my application for the AI Game Designer role.

This role immediately caught my attention because I’m looking to make the move into the game industry and pursue game design, while AI has recently become a major part of how I learn, experiment, and build.

I’ve been using AI for coding, rapid prototyping, problem-solving, content creation, and workflow automation. It has helped me move faster in areas where I’m still growing while giving me more freedom to experiment, test ideas, and turn concepts into working experiences.

I built this portfolio to give you a better sense of how I approach ideas, experiment, prototype, and use AI throughout the development process.

I’m excited by Laser Focus’s approach to combining AI with mobile game development, and I’d love the opportunity to learn, experiment, and contribute alongside your team.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

Reagan Sagolsem

The Problem

Most productivity and task-management tools treat tasks as isolated items to complete. Daily life is more dynamic than that — priorities change, routines evolve, distractions appear, and progress is influenced by what actually happens throughout the day.

AeiMate explores a more adaptive approach: connecting tasks, routines, activities, personal goals, and progress within one system instead of treating them as separate workflows.

The Idea

AeiMate is designed as an adaptive personal workspace that combines structured workflows with AI-assisted decision making.

Not every problem needs AI. Deterministic systems can handle repetitive or predictable tasks more efficiently, while AI can be introduced when context, judgment, or personalization is needed.

The goal is to create a system that knows when to follow a defined workflow, when to automate an action, and when to involve AI — making the experience more useful without making every interaction dependent on an expensive AI call.

Goals

01 — REDUCE DISTRACTION

Help users stay focused during planned work periods by responding to distracting activities and interruptions.

For example, a distracting app opened during a scheduled work session could trigger a simple rule-based intervention first. If the user explains that they need a break, the system can use additional context such as the current time, recent activity, workload, and previous work duration to determine whether a short break is reasonable.

02 — MAKE BREAKS MORE INTELLIGENT

AeiMate should not treat every interruption as a failure. The system can consider how long someone has been working, what time it is, and what they have already accomplished before suggesting an appropriate break.

A short break might be encouraged after sustained work, while a long distraction during an important work period could trigger a stronger intervention.

03 — BUILD A LIVING ACTIVITY RECORD

AeiMate can gradually build a picture of the user's daily activity through lightweight interactions and structured tracking.

Instead of constantly asking questions, the system can identify appropriate moments within the user's schedule to collect optional information and update their activity record.

04 — TURN ACTIVITY INTO USEFUL FEEDBACK

Tracked information can contribute to personal statistics and long-term patterns, allowing users to understand how they spend their time and how their habits evolve.

Food, activity, completed tasks, work sessions, breaks, and other user-provided information can contribute to personal statistics and trends.

05 — CONNECT DAILY ACTIONS WITH LONG-TERM GOALS

AeiMate connects everyday actions with larger personal goals.

Users can create long-term objectives and break them into milestones, projects, and actionable tasks. Completing meaningful work contributes to progress toward those goals.

Goal: Become a Game Designer

↓

Milestones: Beginner → Intermediate → Advanced

↓

Projects: Complete GDD → Build Prototype → Finish Game

↓

Tasks: Design mechanic → Create system → Test → Iterate

06 — MAKE PROGRESS FEEL LIKE PROGRESS

A point and progression system can transform completed work into measurable progress toward larger goals.

Completing meaningful tasks, projects, and milestones can contribute XP or points, allowing users to see their development over time rather than only checking off individual tasks.

07 — MAKE SYSTEMS REUSABLE

Users can eventually turn their personal workflows and roadmaps into reusable templates that others can explore and adapt.

08 — KEEP THE SYSTEM OPEN

AeiMate is designed with extensibility in mind, including the ability to connect external APIs and services when they provide useful functionality.

Project Direction

AeiMate is still in development. The current focus is on validating the product concept, functionality, interactions, and underlying systems before committing to final visual polish.

Player Teams: Runners

  • Players begin from the Runner starting line / safe zone.
  • One player becomes the King, either by vote or random selection.
  • The Runner team wins if the King reaches the end line.
  • If other Runner teammates reach the end line, they can merge with the King.
  • Merged members can detach except the King.
  • The King can create new start points upon colliding with enemies.
  • Runners lose if the King is killed.
  • Runners can eliminate Chasers inside the Runner safe zone / starting line.
  • Runners can see enemy and ally locations on the minimap.
  • Once Runners leave the safe zone, they cannot return.
  • Temporary speed boosters and shields may appear.

Player Teams: Chasers

  • The area between the starting line and end line acts as the Chaser safe zone.
  • Chasers can eliminate Runners who enter their safe zone.
  • Chasers win if the Runner King is killed.
  • Chasers lose if the Runner King reaches the end line.
  • Chasers do not know which Runner is the King.
  • Chasers are eliminated if they enter the Runner safe zone / starting line.
  • Chasers cannot see enemy locations on the minimap unless Runners are outside the starting line.
  • Traps and path blockers may be earned by eliminating enemies.

Win Conditions

What Makes The Game Interesting

Hidden Identity

The Chasers must eliminate the Runner King without knowing which Runner is the King.

Asymmetric Objectives

Each team operates under a different win condition and set of restrictions.

Safe Zones

Safe zones create distinct areas of control and change how players approach movement and elimination.

Information

Different minimap visibility rules create an information imbalance between the two teams.

Movement & Risk

Runners must balance reaching the end line with protecting the King, while Chasers need to close the gap without exposing themselves to Runner defenses.
